A11 Road works and closures

National Highways plan to carry out work to renew the road markings and studs, plus resurface sections of the A11 between Thetford and the A11/A14 junction 38 merge near Newmarket over 3 months between Tuesday 18 October and January 2023. They will work overnight between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather conditions permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, they will need to close sections of the A11, one direction at a time, and divert traffic as detailed below:

Tuesday 18 to Monday 24 October

Southbound closure of the A11 between A134/A1066 roundabout and B1177 roundabout, Thetford

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the A134 to Mundford and join the A1065 / Brandon Road to re-join the A11 at Fiveways Roundabout

Tuesday 25 October to Monday 31 October

Southbound closure of the A11 between Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills and Red Lodge Interchange

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the A11 at Elveden onto the B1106, London Road, A134 and A14 to re-join the A11 / A14 and continue their journey

Tuesday 1 November to Wednesday 16 November

Southbound closure of the A11 between Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills and A11/A14 split near Newmarket

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the A11 at Elveden onto the B1106, London Road, A134 and A14 to re-join the A11 / A14 and continue their journey

Monday 5 December to Tuesday 13 December

Northbound closure of the A11 between A11/A14 split near Newmarket and Red Lodge Interchange

Northbound traffic will be diverted via the A14, A134, London Road and B1106 to re-join the A11 at Elveden

Tuesday 2 January to Friday 6 January

Northbound closure of the A11 between Red Lodge Interchange and Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills

Northbound traffic will be diverted via the A14, A134, London Road and B1106 to re-join the A11 at Elveden

Additional works will be required after this at the following locations:

• A11 Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills for approximately three nights.
• A11 northbound between Fiveways Roundabout and A134/A1066 roundabout, Thetford for approximately two weeks.
