Burials

Mildenhall council maintains three cemeteries

  1. The Old Cemetery - this is a closed cemetery and no further interments are permitted. The area is open to the public as a green space. Only the pathways are mown to encourage wild life and wild flowers to thrive. If you take your dog, please keep him/ her on a lead and clean up afterwards. This is an amazing oasis of peace in a busy town, the gravestones are not in set in straight lines as is usual but placed facing in all directions.
  2. St Mary`s Cemetery – this is also a closed cemetery with small areas side aside for wildlife and wild vegetation. The land is owned by the Church and maintained by the Parish council.
  3. Thetford Road Cemetery – this is the final resting place for many local people. A pleasant, tree-lined, tranquil place, the parish council has recently purchased and planted an avenue of young trees. These are a variety of Sorbus (Olympic Flame) which should be able to withstand the sandy soil. Plans are in hand to approximately double the size of the area, creating more burial/ resting places, separate access and a small car park.

Further information on all three cemeteries, including burials/ interments at the Thetford Road site, may be obtained from the parish council office.
